Maps change with new images
The mapping community is constantly revising locations, outlines, and place names. Therefore, older maps should always be shown with their version number.

What we know.
One version needs a date and justification.
The mapping update thread documents how new official images are incorporated into an existing reconstruction. The display of place names and the legend may also change. A new version therefore affects not only the area covered, but also, in some cases, readability and the evaluation of existing assumptions.
Dates and change notes help with comparison: Which new image led to a shift, which area was removed? This makes it clear what has changed in the research.
That's how we classify it.
Community attribution is not official confirmation. A visible object does not automatically prove its usability or final name.

Landmarks first, overall outline later
For a personal database, individual visible landmarks are often more useful than a supposedly complete map. Each landmark can be assigned an image, an estimated position, and a verification step.
