What Jason Schreier reports about the weapon wheel
In a companion video circulated on October 19, Jason Schreier explains details that did not fully appear in his Bloomberg cover story. Rockstar development lead Rob Nelson reportedly wanted a more grounded weapon system inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2. The team tested many interfaces in place of the familiar circular menu and worked on them for a very long time. None proved as easy to understand as the weapon wheel, so Rockstar returned to that principle. This is a specifically attributed media report based on conversations with senior developers, not an anonymous single-source claim.

A limited arsenal instead of a complete collection
The more important difference from GTA 5 apparently concerns the menu's contents rather than its shape. Schreier's account says players should not carry an almost complete armoury at all times. The goal is closer to Red Dead Redemption 2, where loadout choices require preparation. The reliable part of the account does not establish an exact number or every category. Some reports mention fixed slots and a vehicle trunk for extra storage, but Rockstar has not published those rules in an official feature overview.

Why Rockstar discarded several control concepts
A weapon menu has to balance two conflicting goals: it should limit the selection and feel believable without making fast changes unnecessarily awkward. A grid or layered inventory might appear more realistic but be slower on a controller. Returning to a radial menu therefore does not mean GTA 6 plays exactly like its predecessor. It suggests Rockstar keeps a familiar input method while applying restrictions elsewhere. Claims about animations, ammunition weight or loss rules would currently be speculation.

What this could mean for PS5 and Xbox players
Preparation may matter more on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. With only a limited selection available, players may need to choose equipment for short-range, long-range or discreet jobs. Vehicle storage could provide a middle ground: more gear remains nearby without being permanently accessible. The release must show the actual implementation. The article image only illustrates the weapon-wheel and trunk concept; it is not a screenshot or evidence of the final interface.

What is supported and what remains open
Rockstar still lists November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official page presents the game, editions and trailers but not a full technical explanation of its weapon inventory. The supported attributed claim is limited: Rockstar tried alternatives, kept the weapon wheel and planned a more restricted arsenal. The final slot count, differences between Jason and Lucia, vehicle-storage access and changes before release remain unconfirmed. Independent testing will have to show how quickly and comfortably the system works on both consoles.
